Maria offers a critique to the mutual reinforcement of nationalism and racism in governmental discourse and policies in the Greek-Cypriot community, before and after the fence, arguing that the fence serves its authoritarian agenda, blocking the potential for reconciliation with the Turkish-Cypriot community and, by extent, the deepening of democracy.
